An engineer by training, Andy spent 15 years organising and leading commercial vehicle-based expeditions through the Sahara Desert, West Africa and beyond.
Andy has also had a multiple-award-winning career as an investigative journalist, winning the Royal Television Society Award for the Best Home Current Affairs documentary, and a silver PPI Irish Radio Award. He’s worked undercover and as a reporter and producer on TV and radio for the BBC. An accomplished freelance writer, his work has been published in broadsheet newspapers and magazines.
His enduring interest in sustainable travel solutions has recently expanded into the built environment, and he is now a qualified Passive House designer.
He’s also a certified reef-restoration diver, qualified welder, and former Northern Ireland paragliding champion.
His passion is disecting systems; understanding how they’re designed, how they fail, and how they can be rebuilt with limited resources.
If it ain’t broke, he’ll fix it up.
